Calmore Acro Zone
Gymnastics for the Community
Welcome to the website of Calmore Acro Zone. This is the place to find out more about what we do, who the people and gymnasts are and some of the cool things we get up to.
As our tagline says Calmore Acro Zone provides “gymnastics for the community”. We aim to make gymnastics available and affordable to everyone.
The club started in November 2008 at Calmore Junior School because pupils from year 6 were not able to continue participating in the after school club once they had left the school. Also children who went to other primary schools did not have access to a club local to their own community. We have just celebrated our second anniversary and are still going strong with a small waiting list.
We are not a competitive club but concentrate on developing skills and performing at galas and shows
At Calmore Acro Zone it is all about having fun in a safe environment. We have two trained gymnastics coaches and several helpers. All adults helping at the club are CRB checked. The club is affiliated to the British Gymnastics Association, the governing body of gymnastics, which ensures high standards of safety and gives every child and adult in the gym insurance cover.
Assessment
Every child is assessed and placed in a group appropriate to their age and skill level. This assessment on the first week they come to club is free. If there is no room in the group to which they are assigned they will be placed on the waiting list.
We continually assess the gymnasts and move them to a higher group as soon as they are ready. Should a child show promise and want to take up competitive gymnastics or sports acrobatics there are a number of clubs in the Southampton and Waterside area that we can recommend.
